Kearney sets his sights on winning the Premiership

- By SCOTT COULL

No one can accuse new St Mirren manager Oran Kearney of lacking ambition after the Northern Irishman revealed that he hopes to guide the Paisley club to the Ladbrokes Premiership title.

Kearney was handed the St Mirren reins last week, leaving semi-professional side Coleraine and a PE teaching job in County Antrim to sign a threeyear contract following the sacking of Alan Stubbs.

The 40-year-old had significant success at Coleraine, winning the Irish FA Challenge Cup last season and finishing second in the Irishpremiership.nowhe’s aiming high at the Buddies, who currently sit 11th in the Scottish top-flight with one win and three defeats from their opening four games.

“I want to win the league because the day I started at Coleraine I wanted titles and trophies,” Kearney told the BBC’S Irish League Show programme.

“St Mirren, having just been promoted, obviously are not in that position at the minute. But Coleraine a few years ago weren’t in that position either, so with a bit of hard work, a huge amount can be done.

“It’s going to be tough. It hasn’t been the best start to the season and there’s a lot of work to do.”

First up for Kearney is the visit of Celtic on Friday.
