Animal transport

The transporting of calves only a few weeks old to Catalonia brings me to ask the question, why are Scottish farmers doing it? Why do they not fatten them themselves, and produce veal?

Veal is almost unobtainable in Scotland but is tasty as a schnitzel or in a casserole and is sought after by chefs. Any veal you get here – and it is difficult to get – comes from Holland.

Why don’t we give calves a short but pleasant life and not ship them in lorries all the way to Spain in cramped conditions on dusty roads? MIKE TWADDLE
