Nobel Peace Prize winner Annan buried

-

Former United Nations Secretary-general Kofi Annan was buried yesterday after days of visitations and a final funeral ceremony.

Mourners have thronged to the conference centre in Accra where his coffin has been since his body arrived on Monday. Many attending described him as a peaceful man who dedicated himself to global security.

Mr Annan died on 18 August in Berne, Switzerland, at the age of 80.

The grandson of tribal chiefs, he was the first black African to become the UN leader and was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.
