Flat batteries…

The electric battery storage facility in West Lothian (The Scotsman, 12 September) I’m afraid is another case of trumpeting a solution with no regard to the nature and magnitude of the problem it is supposed to solve.

If the device described wrongly as being one of 20MW is actually of 20 megawatt-hours capacity then that is equivalent to just about 20 seconds of Scotland’s average electricity usage. It may help to iron out tiny ripples in supply/demand but is going to contribute precious little to balancing out windy and nonwindy days as claimed .
