#RUTHDAVIDSON

Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson has ruled out ever taking on the party’s top job for the sake of her mental health and relationship.

The 39-year-old, who is pregnant with her first child, told how she had selfharmed and had suicidal thoughts when she was younger.

@Therosie tweeted: “I genuinely wish Ruth Davidson well, for her mental health and new baby. I’m just disappointed in her lack of empathy for the people who are killing themselves over her party policies.”

@david3012 wrote: “Put party politics to one side. This is a remarkable story of a mainstream UK political leader talking so openly about their mental health, self-harm and depression. Thank you @

@Geoffshadbold added: “Ruth Davidson’s interview on her mental health issues is important and welcome. To have someone high profile talk about self harming is helpful. So many of us do it at points in our life with either physical or psychological self harm. But people don’t tend to talk about it.”

@Robwhiteman said: “To many people this candid interview makes Ruth Davidson eminently suitable to one day lead our country. We are all tired with the Boris Johnsons of politics whose existence is built solely on obtaining the top job.”

#P1 TESTING

Education Secretary John Swinney has said it would be “deeply irresponsible” to scrap controversial tests for primary one pupils. Mr Swinney claimed opposition politicians who have criticised the standardised national assessments have often been “ill-informed”.

YVMCL tweeted: “So parents are stupid and don’t understand the ‘benefits’ of P1 standardised testing. Once someone sits down with them and explains it they’re happy according to John Swinney - ah, ok.” Lillenoir added: “Strongly disagree with the testing of P1’s. Firstly they shouldn’t even be at school as they are too young and secondly any decent teacher will give you an appraisal of them without the need for testing. #P1testing.”

#KILTWALK

Edinburgh was awash with tartan on Sunday for the Kiltwalk 2018.

Judy Murray tweeted: “Rocking the Kilt.”
