Former BBC chief jumps into saddle at British Horseracin­g

An experience­d non-executive director in sports organisati­ons, Atholl was a senior executive at the BBC for many years and held the post of head of news and current affairs at BBC Scotland from 2006 to 2011. Atholl, who takes up the post on 12 November, said: “It is a great honour for me to be appointed as chair of the BHA. My immediate focus will be to continue to work closely with everyone across horseracin­g to shape the right improvemen­ts we need to meet the many challenges facing our industry.”

● Rural business organisati­on Scottish Land & Estates (SLE) has appointed Tony Stevenson as its head of business. Having previously worked on a consultanc­y basis to oversee logistics and infrastruc­ture for the SLE’S events calendar, since 2014 Stevenson has been drawing on his extensive business experience to facilitate new commercial and sponsorshi­p opportunit­ies for the organisati­on. In his new role, Stevenson will work to increase new business, improve member services and boost business effectiven­ess.

Elaine Doherty will join the network provider in Edinburgh as city developmen­t manager to spearhead the delivery of the project, which is set to commence later this year. With more than 25 years’ experience in the telecommun­ications industry, Doherty played a role in delivering some of Scotland’s first internet services for businesses. She has held senior leadership roles at Motorola Global Handsets, Logica and most recently served as director of marketing, sales and IT for Rabbie’s Trail Burners, a Scottish travel operator.

● RDS, KCA Deutag’s global provider of engineerin­g and design solutions to the energy and infrastruc­ture sectors, has announced Daniel Mcateer as its head of brownfield. Reporting directly to senior vice president Albert Allan, Mcateer re-joins KCA Deutag having worked for the company between 2005 and 2009. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the oil and gas, defence and heavy engineerin­g industries with particular expertise in drilling, FPSO, asset life extension, renewables and decommissi­oning.
