Wildcats bare teeth in stirring win

HOCKEY Western Wildcats could be the new force in the land after their stirring 2-1 win over Kelburne in the match of the day in the first division.

After a goalless first half Wildcats’ Rob Harwood converted from the spot, Andrew Mcconnell added a second but in the final minute Adam Bain snatched a consolatio­n for Kelburne.

At Titwood, Grange drew 1-1 with Clydesdale. Dylan Bean opened for the champions but Struan Walker replied for the home side. Edinburgh University thumped Gordonians 7-0, while Watsonians went down 4-2 to Grove Menzieshil­l and Hillhead had a 3-2 win over Uddingston.

In the women’s first division, champions Edinburgh University were held to a goalless draw by Dundee Wanderers.

Watsonians held Grove to a 1-1 draw, while Wildcats gave GHK a 6-2 mauling, Alex Stuart scoring a hat-trick.

Clydesdale Western put five past Grange without reply.
