Power to Ruth
Lesley Riddoch tries to tell us (Perspective, 17 September) that Ruth Davidson does
not have support in the right places, but Ms Davidson is an MSP because she won a seat in the heart of Scotland’s capital, taking it from the SNP, Ms Riddoch’s obvious preferred party of government.
This suggests she absolutely does have support in the right places in Scotland, and in being seriously touted as a future Prime Minister, it seems she is well thought of elsewhere in the UK as well. The whole point in having a Union is that good personnel and policies can come from any part of that Union, and the whole union accepts them if they make sense.
The problem we have in Scotland is that our “media commentators”, are far too parochial in their thinking, many incapable of seeing beyond their immediate horizons.
Ms Davidson does have a strong Scottish base, which she won herself and did not inherit, and she does have this wider perspective, which we should all admire. A moderate and popular Prime Minister fromscotlandwouldbebetter than many alternatives, even if she is a Tory, for Scotland as well as the UK. VICTOR CLEMENTS

If Ruth Davidson is saying she hasn’t got what it takes to be Prime Minister of the UK, why on earth does she think can do the job of First Minister?
