St Johnstone Exception to the rules

- SJ

My dad used to say if you did not notice a referee during a game he was doing his job well. Sadly this was not the case on Saturday.

The number of games in which decisions have raised ire this season is troubling. Not surprisingly, there has been calls for VAR. But Scottish football cannot afford it. Neither is it the panacea many think it can be.

The real problem is the vagaries in interpreting the rules. Differences in interpreting the rules both by officials during a game and across the board are easy to highlight.

The problem on Saturday was the application of the rules relating to professional fouls. You had no worries if you had been cautioned – you got off scot-free!
