Gunning for speed

-

Why ridicule the active Speedwatch volunteer who reported 40,000 speeding drivers (“Guns for hire”, Comment, 18 September)? Surely that just shows the extent of the problem?

Future generations will be baffled by our failure to use the available intrusive technology, which has so many malign consequences, to eradicate this ubiquitous lawbreaking.

Failing that, inviting concerned citizens to do their bit seems worth trying, if only to remind us that law and order is matter for everyone, not just the police. But why should community groups have to pay for the equipment? ANDREW ANDERSON Granton Road, Edinburgh
