Mccann says he still has belief in Dundee after shocking start to the season

- By ANGUS WRIGHT

Neil Mccann remains a believer as Dundee go searching for their first Premiership points of the season against Hibernian today.

The Dark Blues are bottom of the table after five straight defeats since the start of the league campaign. The manager, however, retains faith in his players to turn their form around. He said: “I have heard so many managers talk about it, whether in my previous job [as a pundit] or this one, that when you are down there that it seems to be that things do go against you – decisions, bad luck.

“But I am not one who is going to start begging for good luck and count on the referee’s decision.

“We need to make our own decisions better then I am sure the results will come.

“I believe. I am still a massive believer in this team and how good they can be. They have shown so many times this season that, when we are at it, we are a real good side. We proved it against Aberdeen here and against St Johnstone without getting that elusive goal where a team has to open up against us. That is what we are looking to do on Saturday.”

Former Dundee keeper Rab Douglas was quoted as saying it is “a must-win” game for his former team-mate. However, the ex-rangers and Scotland player said: “I will continue doing my job every day. This league game will not define this club’s finish this season. I don’t care what people outside this club think. My responsibility is to the people within the club and I count the supporters as within the club.

“What people say outside that domain doesn’t really bother me.

“I would consider probably Rab a fan. He has been asked his opinion and he is entitled to that.

“My responsibility is to prepare this team for the game against Hibs and I have done that.”
