Harmonica note perfect at Hamilton

- By GORDON BROWN

Harmonica was a 9-1 winner of the EBF Stallions Scottish Premier Series Fillies’ Handicap at Hamilton Park yesterday.

Ridden by Ryan Tate and trained by Sir Mark Prescott, the Newmarket raider saw off Pattie by a length and a quarter. Tate, who is based with the winning trainer, said: “Her form is starting to look pretty good. She handled the track and the ground well.

“We’ve always thought a lot of her and this was another step in the right direction. I never really went for her until the final furlong and she had a fair bit left.

“This was my first ride here so it’s nice to have a 100 per cent record!”

What Wonders Weave landed the Hopes N Dreams Selling Stakes for the second year running, this time in the hands of Ronan Whelan. And David Egan was another young jockey to ride his first winner at the Lanarkshire track when guiding Jamil to victory in the Always Trying Novice Stakes for Roger Varian.

Karl Burke has a promising youngster in the shape of Constant in the Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation EBF Novice Stakes at Hamilton today. The Dutch Art colt finished fifth on debut at this venue and went on to spring a 20-1 surprise at Yarmouth.

In beating representatives from the John Gosden and Varian yards – the third has come out and won since – he probably achieved a decent level of form and may defy the penalty.
