Wildcats knocked off the summit

Hockey: Wildcats surrendered pole position in the women’s first division when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Grove Menzieshill at Auchenhowie.

Heather Aitken opened the scoring for the home side before Grove hit back to take a 2-1 lead, both goals coming from Lucy Smith. Wildcats clawed their way back to level terms through a penalty corner strike by Kate Holmes.

Wildcats’ draw allowed Clydesdale Western and Dundee Wanderers to take over at the top, the former leading by the slender margin of two goals. Western beat Hillhead 4-0 while Wanderers thumped Grange 5-1.
