Taylor weaves some magic to keep City flying high

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Leaders Edinburgh City clocked up their fifth win on the trot with a 2-0 success at

Queen’s Park thanks to a goal in each half from Graham Taylor.

City moved into a deserved lead on 39 minutes when Taylor slotted home Scott Shepherd’s cut-back and the second came just before the hour mark when the winger was picked out at the edge of the box and he blasted a shot into the net.

The margin of the victory could have been greater but referee Peter Stuart was perhaps the only person in the National Stadium who did not see Gerry Mclauchlanchopdownshepherd in the box late on.

It was City’s first-ever Hampden success and manager James Mcdonagh said: “It was a good win and that is the only reason I can laugh about that penalty not being given.”

Peterhead kept up the pressure with their 1-0 win over

Berwick Rangers at Balmoor, keeping the gap at two points.

Rory Mcallister turned in a Jamie Stevenson cross to come up with the winning goal on 73 minutes.

Clyde are up to third after a 4-1 home success over Elgin City. Martin Mcniff, pictured, scored twice in the first half, with David Goodwillie also finding the net before Jordan Lowdon’s free-kick deceived home keeper Blair Currie. Elgin’s Rabin Omar was dismissed before substitute Karim Belmokhta added Clyde’s fourth.

Annan enjoyed a 2-1 success at Stirling Albion where Evan Horne’s own goal and Tony Wallace’s shot had the points won before Dominic Docherty’s late strike for the hosts.

Albion Rovers picked up their first point in a 1-1 draw at Cowdenbeath and it could have been their first three points. The Coatbridge side led through Lewis Mclear’s goal on 25 minutes until just eight minutes from time when Jordyn Sheerin headed in.
