Russell tells PM: ‘End brinkmanship’
The latest UK government papers “expose more starkly than anything we have yet seen just how disastrous a ‘no deal’ Brexit could be”, the Scottish Government’s Constitutional Relations Secretary has said.
Mike Russell challenged the Prime Minister to end the “Brexit brinkmanship” and commit to keeping the UK in the European single market and customs union, warning of “economic harm and chaos which could ensue” from leaving the EU without a deal.
But Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab said UK ministers were “giving the information so that everyone knows what they need to do well in advance”.
Following a Cabinet meeting to discuss the embattled Chequers plan for Brexit, and future immigration policy, Mr Raab said the government was going to “keep our calm [and] hold our nerve”.
