We do have a say

The letter from Mary Thomas (25 September), regarding independence, evidences a quite staggering financial ignorance. She mentions important decisions being made elsewhere, presumably Westminster, with no Scottish input. She forgets, conveniently, that the recent referendum on the future of Scotland decisively supported remaining part of the United Kingdom, the Parliament of which is Westminster.

Additionally, she ignores the fact that Scotland has input at Westminster through its Members of Parliament. The fact that a significant element, the reduced SNP representation, choose grievance politics and childish pranks as a means of representing Scotland, instead of making a positive input, is our fault alone.

Any truly Nationalist party would not be looking to repatriate powers from Westminster, only for them to be passed back to Brussels, where Scotland’s input would truly be negligible. This evidences that it is not Nationalism, namely “patriotic feelings”, that drives the SNP, but a false superiority over anything associated with the English, together with the misguided belief that Scotland (population 5.4 million) should have supremacy within the UK (population 65.1m). She has been listening to SNP propaganda for far too long! ANDREW WHITE
