Jobs axed as Inverness plumbing firm folds

- By SCOTT REID

An Inverness-based plumbing business has gone bust with the loss of more than two dozen jobs.

Urquhart & Co entered liquidation this week with the court appointment of Iain Fraser, a partner at specialist business advisory firm FRP Advisory, as provisional liquidator.

The family-run plumbing and heating subcontractor had served customers across the Highlands and Islands. It has ceased trading with immediate effect, resulting in all 26 members of staff being made redundant.

Fraser said: “Urquhart & Co had been long established in providing plumbing and heating services working particularly with housebuilders in Inverness and the wider Highlands and Islands.

“Unfortunately, an increasingly competitive market has reduced profit margins and caused unsustainable cashflow difficulties.

“We will work closely with all agencies, including the Redundancy Payments Office, to ensure that employees receive every support,” he added.
