Sacré bleu: Sailing event finally gets under way in Cannes after strong winds delay regatta
Contestants compete on yachts during the 40th edition of the Regates Royales yesterday off the coast of Cannes in south-eastern France. The event finally got underway after two days of strong winds had forced the 200 crews to stay ashore. The weather conditions were ideal with a light south-easterly wind reaching some 15 knots and combining with warm temperatures, sun and blue skies. The event for some of the world’s best sailors was first held by the Société des Régates and the International Yacht Club 1929 when they transformed their traditional spring regatta into the Regates Royales.
