There is no need for a tourist tax. To put forward that other cities do it is not a reason for doing it. Remember how Edinburgh council hijacked the New Year celebrations and it was a token fee and then it went up and up and where does that money go? Edinburgh council squander money and then ask for more to fund this new folly.

As long as this tax is not seen as another way of protecting extravagant pensions within the civil service and sends out a new message to people in Scotland, to people that see “cash in hand” as a way of avoiding tax.
