Crotchet strikes right note in Musselburgh win
Crotchet gained her second win of the season at Musselburgh when landing the feature race yesterday.
Ridden by Connor Murtagh and trained by Richard Fahey, she saw off Fashion Theory by a length and a quarter in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Scottish Premier Fillies’ Handicap.
Murtagh, a 5lb claimer based with the winning trainer, said: “They went very quick early on so I hung on to her as she was stepping up to a mile for the first time. She has plenty of speed and quickened up really well when I asked her.”
Linda Perratt was all smiles after Jordan Electrics scored at 11/1 in the Royal Scots Club Nursery Handicap under Ben Robinson. The East Kilbride trainer said: “He’s got plenty of toe and enjoyed this better ground. It was a nervy finish as he only won by a short head.”
Ayrshire-born jockey Danny Tudhope completed a shortpriced double on Nate The Great and Ocelot trained by Archie Watson and Robert Cowell respectively.
Kibaar was not winning out of turn when scoring at Newcastle recently and must have every chance of following up at Catterick.
The six-year-old earned a rating in the late 90s when trained by Barry Hills, but he has not lived up to that early promise.
Following a largely disap- pointing spell with Kevin Ryan, there have at least been signs of a small resurgence under current trainer Ruth Carr.
He made the most of a career low mark of 45 when ending a two-year losing spell at Ayr in July and has run consistently well ever since.
He had a decisive recent triumph at Gosforth Park and even though the handicapper has given him a 6lb hike, he is still nicely handicapped from a perch of 60.
Kibaar has been a little unpredictable in the past, but this looks a good opportunity for him to continue his decent run of form.
