Goal in 24 seconds hands Mcglynn a dream start

Raith Rovers received an instant dividend for bringing John Mcglynn back to the club as manager with the Kirkcaldy men defeating hosts Dumbarton 5-1.

Onetimeson­lewisvaugh­an chipped in the opening goal of Mcglynn’s second time in charge after just 24 seconds, with Nathan Flanagan cracking in the second on 11 minutes before lashing in the third after a mix-up in defence. Another exdumbarto­n striker Kevin Nisbet flicked in the fourth before half-time with Calum Gallagher restoring some home pride with a looping header on 70 minutes. Liam Buchanan took Raith’s tally up to five with a smart turn. Mcglynn, pictured, said: “It was a dream come true to get the goal so early. Dumbarton could not handle the tempo that we played at.”

Home manager Stephen Aitken said: “The number of injuries we have is hurting us badly.”

Arbroath continue to lead the way after coming from behind to defeat Airdrie 3-1 at Gayfield. The Diamonds led thanks to Joao Vitoria’s close-range finish but Gavin Swankie poked in an equaliser six minutes after the restart.

Colin Hamilton headed the Red Lichties in front with Ryan Wallace wrapping up the win five minutes from the end.

East Fife won for a fourth consecutiv­e league game when they saw off visitors

Stenhousem­uir 2-0, with Darren Young’s side moving up to third place as a result.

Craig Watson’s powerful header separated the sides at the interval and Rory Currie grabbed the second in injury time when he reacted quickest after a Mark Docherty penalty had been saved and touched the loose ball home.

Stranraer’s Luke Donnelly struck five minutes from time to earn his side a point in a 1-1 draw at Brechin. Callum Tapping had the hosts in front directly from a free kick after 31 minutes.

It was honours even in Angus as Montrose and Forfar drew 2-2 at Links Park. Goals from Jamie Bain and Mark Hill had the Loons in command after 27 minutes but Graham Webster pulled a goal back and Danny Cavanagh restored parity with 20 minutes left.
