Under new plans announced by Prime Minister Theresa May, restaurants in England, Scotland and Wales will be forced to pass on all tips to workers.
@Sallybundockbbc posted: “Some restaurant chains are taking a cut... 8%-10%.”
@tframe replied: “I bet most of the customers don’t realise that a % of the tip is taken by the chain.”
@snowyknoll added: “Servers and kitchen staff are entitled to 100% of the tips they receive. Withholding a percentage of the gratuity is essentially a surcharge on the bill, and should be identified as such. This practice is as silly as charging customers a cutlery and dinnerware rental fee.”
While @jeremycorbyn pitched in: “@Theresa_may, you’ve just announced another Labour policy – banning employers taking workers’ tips.”
#BREXIT
In a speech at the Conservative Party Conference, Brexit secretary Dominic Raab said EU leaders had responded to the prime minister’s respect with ‘jibes’. @Jamesmelville said: “Dominic Raab: ‘If the only offer from the EU threatens the integrity of our Union, then we will be left with no choice but to leave without a deal. He conveniently forgets that’s exactly what leaving without a deal does – it threatens the Union. “
@pjmeade added: “Raab said it was ‘wrong to describe it as the Government doing the stockpiling’ In other words, @Conservatives are doing nothing to mitigate their nightmarish Brexit plans”
@drewsonix posted: “Wasn’t it always depressingly predictable we’d end up stamping our foot + ‘warning’ the EU about their ‘need’ to give the UK a great deal? Wasn’t it always obvious they’d have every reason not to?”
@Johninnit said: “From trying to bin our working time rights and trade unions, to calling for quicker hire and fire rules. Not sure Dominic Raab is the safest pair of hands for a ‘jobs & rights first’ Brexit.”
#RAINBOW
Geoffrey Hayes, longtime presenter of much-loved children’s TV show Rainbow, has died at the age of 76. @Tomblenkinsop said: “Another part of 1980s childhood has gone.” @Cbeebieshq tweeted: “Very sad to hear that Geoffrey Hayes has passed away! Rainbow might not have been on BBC Children’s but it was a classic piece of our childhood. Paint the whole world with a rainbow!”
