Language matters

-

Your front page headline yesterday was interesting – but for all the wrong reasons.

What exactly are the EU’S “demands”? The UK has chosen to leave the EU club, much to the chagrin of many, but a fact nonetheless; the UK is therefore petitioning for terms of departure that suit it best; the EU club of 27 reserves the right to stand fast by the core principles which define its existence and therefore suit it best; the UK can choose to either compromise or leave without a deal; so, by a process of deduction, the UK is the one making demands, not the EU.

It’s time people engaged with facts, not fantasy, and that applies whatever your political or national perspective on Brexit. Headlines that skew language to propagate entrenched mindsets are not helpful. For the record, that’s not a demand, just a suggestion.
