Carjacker arrested after public appeal

A man who attacked a pensioner in broad daylight in Edinburgh and stole her car has been arrested and charged by police.

The incident took place about 3pm on Sunday on Westfield Street near Gorgie BMC social club and the car park to the rear of the Sainsbury’s supermarket.

A 77-year-old woman was loading shopping into her red Toyota Yaris when she was attacked. A 23-year-old man was arrested and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.
