Sullivan lands Ayr feature with late charge to seal impressive double

- By IAIN FERGUSON

Jockey Jimmy Sullivan produced two great rides to land a double at Ayr yesterday.

His first win was on Redarna at odds of 6-1 for trainer Dianne Sayer in the Racing UK Profits Returned To racing Handicap.

He brought his mount with a blistering run to scythe through the field and collar Monsieur Jimmy.

The feature race of the afternoon was the Weatherbys Racing Diaries Handicap over seven furlongs and, once again, Sullivan brought the Ruth Carr-trained Explain (7-1) late on the scene to win going away from Queen Penn.

Earlier, Danny Tudhope used all his guile to get Inexes, 9-2, over the line by three quarters of a length from Shortbackandsides to win the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Handicap.

Tom Fife, representing winning trainer Marjorie Fife, said: “He can be a quirky sort but Danny knows how to get the best out of him and made sure he got home.”

The opening contest, the Western House Hotel Nursery Handicap, saw the Richard Fahey-trained Firewater, the 9-4 favourite, win convincingly from Ugo Gregory and Fahey completed a double when Billy Bond (9-1) landed Division 1 of the apprentice handicap.

At nottingham today, saaheq, who is on a roll after a late start to the campaign, can make it three wins in as many starts this term in the KFE Leaders In Frying Excellence Handicap. Michael Appleby’s four-yearold did not make his first start until last month but secured a ready one-length success over five furlongs, with his followup victory at Sandown coming in similarly easy fashion.
