Estonia broke?

-

Letters such as that from Grant Frazer (2 October) only serve to illustrate how many Nationalists just don’t get the fact that Scotland had a referendum and voted decisively to remain within the United Kingdom, notwithstanding that the options Yes and No were rejected by the Electoral Commission for the EU referendum as unacceptably stacking the odds in favour of Yes.

As for Estonia having more opportunity to shape its own destiny than Scotland, this is utterly laughable. Does Estonia have broadly 10 per cent of seats in the European Parliament ? Does Estonia spend £13 billion more than it generates in income, thanks to the EU? Does it have as great a say in EU affairs as Germany or France? If Nationalists are expecting an independent Scotland to be an equal partner in the EU, I suggest they ‘wake up and smell the coffee’!

If the SNP were less grievance driven, they would take the opportunity to constructively discuss issues, for example, arising from our imminent exit from the Common Agricultural policy and the Common Fisheries policy, instead of “carping” from the sidelines.
