Ex-chief constable wins Met promotion

- By CHRIS MARSHALL

The former chief constable of Scotland’s national force has won promotion within the Metropolitan Police.

Sir Stephen House, who left Police Scotland in 2015, has been appointed deputy commissioner, the London force’s second most senior rank.

Sir Stephen was the first chief constable of the merged Police Scotland, but left following controversy over armed policing and the deaths of Lamara Bell and John Yuill in a crash on the M9.

He re-joined the Met earlier this year as an assistant commissioner.

Commissioner Cressida Dick said: “Steve combines both immense operational and leadership expertise and experience with a passion for policing and for London.”

“The SNP must prioritise support for police officers over cost savings”
