Grange eclipsed by Austrians

-

Grange went down 4-1 to Austrian champions SV Arminen in their opening Eurohockey League pool match in Barcelona.

The Edinburgh side were guilty of basic defensive errors and the die was cast after three minutes when Ally Irvine committed a needless foul, resulting in a penalty corner which Philip Schmidt deflected home.

Arminen doubled their tally when a speculative shot from Alexander Bele eluding keeper Douglas Gourley.

Bele then added a third and Patrick Schmidt made it 4-0 before 17-year-old Jacob Tweedie got one back for the Scots. Grange face Dutch side Oranje-rood today.
