Edmund through to semi-finals
British No 1 Kyle Edmund battled his way through to the China Open semi-finals with a 6-3, 7-6 (7/4) victory over Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic.
Edmund did not lose his serve throughout the match, claiming a break in Lajovic’s opening service game which was good enough to win the first set. It was a tougher challenge for the fifth seed in the second as he had to stave off two break points.
Lajovic forced a tiebreak, which the Brit won to claim his place in the last four.
Edmund will now face Nikoloz Basilashvili after the Georgian saw off Tunisia’s Malek Jaziri – conqueror of second seed Alexander Zverev – 6-2, 6-2.
