Murder accused dies while in prison

A man who was due to stand trial after allegedly murdering his partner with a knife has died in prison.

Hugh Baird was due to stand trial next week at Glasgow High Court for the murder of Jennifer Morgan.

The 40-year-old was accused of repeatedly stabbing the young mother at her home in Alexander Place, Kirkintilloch, on 18 April, this year.

But Hugh was discovered dead in Barlinnie Prison, Glasgow on Monday. Police Scotland said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
