Hong Kong visa denial ‘political’
The refusal by the Hong Kong authorities to grant a visa to a Financial Times journalist is “politically motivated”, the Foreign Secretary said.
Jeremy Hunt said it was “unprecedented” for the authorities to reject the visa for Victor Mallet, the FT’S Asia news editor.
“In the absence of an explanation from the authorities we can only conclude that this move is politically motivated,” he said. Chris Yeung, of the Hong Kong Journalists’ Association, said the group was “deeply concerned”.
