Caravan park rethinks name after Trump effect

A small Scottish caravan park is being forced to change its name because of its links with Donald Trump.

Bosses at Turnberry Holiday Park, near the famous golf resort in South Ayrshire, have said they will drop “Turnberry” from its name because of the “the Trump effect”.

The American President has owned the prestigious Turnberry golf resort, in Girvan, South Ayrshire, since 2014.

But staff at the caravan site say they have had increased inquiries from potential customers checking whether it had anything to do with the Republican president. And they now want to rebrand the holiday park and underline that it has nothing to do with Mr Trump or his businesses.

In a recent survey carried out by the park, 32 per cent of people said they were less likely to travel to Turnberry because of its links to Trump.

Andrew Howe is the chief executive of Bridge Leisure Parks, the owners of Turn- berry Holiday Park, said: “We have worked hard to make Turnberry a wonderful holiday park and are concerned that customers are put off due to the Trump effect.

“We’re proud of our historic association with Turnberry, but we are considering a new name that highlights the positive aspects of this wonderful part of the world.”
