#ASHERS

The Supreme Court has backed a bakery which refused to make a pro samesex marriage cake. The Christian owners of Ashers in Belfast previously lost a discrimination case but have successfully appealed.

@Dupleader announced: “The #Ashers ruling is an historic and seminal judgement. This has been a long journey for everyone involved in the case. I commend Amy & Daniel Mcarthur for their grace and perseverance. This now provides clarity for people of all faiths and none.”

@d0ug7a5 said: “The supreme court ruling in #Ashers ‘#gaycake’ case confirms what we already knew. It’s acceptable to be homophobic in 2018, as long as your homophobia is religious.”

@eoinmauricedaly added: “The oddest (implicit) argument circulating about the #Ashers cake case is that bakers are normally attributed to the words they ice on cakes, such that they are themselves expressing the message by icing it. They don’t really care about John’s birthday or Vera’s retirement, I assume.”

#MENTALHEALTHDAY

World Mental Health Day is marked ever year on 11 October and raises awareness of mental illness.

@Theopaphitis said: “There are some shocking statistics out there about mental health & it’s more important than ever to turn the spotlight on the different ways people can be supported, not just today but every day.”

@elenmorgan1 warned: “There’s nothing worse than someone saying ‘just snap out of it”. It’s a disorder, not a decision, and it really is OK not to be OK.”

@Louisebiagioni added: “Look after each other but don’t forget to look after yourself.”

#STRICTLY

The fallout from Strictly Come Dancing contestant Seann Walsh’s kiss with dance partner Katya Jones rumbles on.

@emmyfg asked: “Sean(n): it was only a kiss, how did it en(n)d up like this?”

@Ctallers joked: “Petition to replace Seann Walsh on #Strictly with my cat Pumpkin. Her dancing feet are ready.”

@Benpeyton007 said: “Wouldn’t it be great if the audience simply remained quiet after Seann and Katya finish their dance on Saturday. No applause, just silence.”
