Former Conservative Prime Minister John Major has joined Gordon Brown in condemning upcoming changes to Universal Credit. Major compared the policy to the poll tax.

@Andrew_adonis said: “John Major doing a better and better job as Leader of the Opposition.”

@becks_or joked: “John Major said this morning on BBC Radio 4 in relation to the new Universal Credit system that he doesn’t predict a riot! Well, John, the Kaiser Chiefs disagree.”

@Johnnypapa64 said: “John Major joins Gordon Brown in urging reforms of universal credit. No comments so far from Blair and Cameron, maybe they don’t think it’s relevant.”

@literallylucy1 added: “Who does John Major think he is? On the radio sounding like he’s the Pope.”

@estwebber asked: “What if life is Gordon Brown and John Major making strongly worded interventions until you die?”

The parent company of the cafe and bakery firm has announced it will be forced to stop trading without an “immediate” cash injection. The news comes after the firm uncovered “accounting irregularities”. @oggieuk said: “This is just amazing, how this has happened so quickly. As ever, thoughts with staff at this uncertain time.”

@Groomb said: “For an apparently healthy £44 million company to reach the brink of collapse in two days points to one hell of an accounting irregularity.”

@supsterjnr said: “The only injection Patisserie Valerie needs is some flavour into its cakes.”

@hansmollman added: “I guess Patisserie Valerie just goes to show you can’t have your gateau and eat it.”
