#BSE

A case of BSE, known to many as mad cow disease, has been confirmed on a farm in Aberdeenshire. A 1992 outbreak led to the deaths of 156 people and crippled the British beef industry for several years.

@Cvoscotland said: “Sad to have confirmed a case of BSE in Aberdeenshire this morning, but good surveillance system is proved to work well. Disappointing news, but not unexpected to have occasional sporadic cases, and no effect on food safety.”

@Fergusewingmsp said: “There is no risk to consumer health as high levels of consumer protection are already in place. These include controls on animal feed, and removal of the parts of cattle most likely to carry BSE infectivity.”

@Acquinney added: “As sporadic cases are and should be expect, I would be more worried if we were not finding them.”

#ANTISLAVERYDAY

Now in its eighth year, Anti-slavery Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of trafficking and modern slavery. @ukhomeoffice said: “Today is Anti-slavery Day. If you suspect that someone is a victim of slavery or is being exploited, report it.” @Josssheldon said: “There are more slaves in the world today than at the height of the transatlantic slave trade.”

@Hopeforjustice added: “Human life should never be bought and sold but it is happening every day in every country. One victim said recently: “It’s not the acts of bad people that hurt me the most. It’s the indifference of the public.”

#KLEENEX

The company is scrapping its ‘Mansize’ branding from tissue boxes after 60 years as some hit out over sexism.

@Lisamhancox said: “Hi Kleenex. My 4yo son asked why they are called mansize? Can girls, boys and mummies use them? I said: I don’t know and yes of course. He suggests you should call them ‘very large tissues’. It is 2018.”

@Seabee201 was unimpressed: “Can we add ‘extra absorbent, to mop up the tears of overly sensitive crybabies’? Do we really have nothing more important to worry about?”

@andyaustin67 said: “I’m guessing your next project will be with the Isle of MAN tourist board to rebrand it the Isle of Either Sex?”
