Leicester boosted by swift return of May to face Scarlets

- By DUNCAN BECH

Jonny May returns for Leicester tonight as they bid to rescue their Champions Cup group campaign against the Scarlets.

May, who has five tries to his name so far this season, sustained a shoulder injury against Northampton a fortnight ago as a result of a collision with Saints’ Teimana Harrison.

The injury had raised concerns that May could be sidelined for England’s autumn Test series, but he is restored to the right wing having missed just one match.

He is joined in the starting XV by lock Will Skinner, who has completed his controversial four-week ban for a dangerous tackle.

Leicester opened Pool 4 with a 24-10 defeat by Ulster and know that another defeat would deal a mortal blow to their hopes of advancing to the knockout phase.

The Scarlets also fell on the opening weekend, losing 14-13 to Racing 92, and interim coach Geordan Murphy wants the Welsh region to experience the type of reception his players received in Belfast.

“The atmosphere in Ulster was certainly intimidating,” he said.

“It was very difficult for everyone and we couldn’t hear ourselves very well. To have the flip side of that at Welford Road would be amazing.”

Northampton are bidding to revive their own European quest when travel to the Dragons looking to atone for their 41-20 Challenge Cup rout by Clermont.
