Duffy takes over at lowly Dumbarton as Durrant exits

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Former Morton boss Jim Duffy has returned to football as the manager of

Dumbarton.

The 59-year-old, who was linked with positions at Partick Thistle, Airdrie and Queen’s Park recently, takes over from Stephen Aitken who was dismissed a fortnight ago after the Sons slipped to second bottom place.

Assistant manager Ian Durrant, who has now left his role, took the side in their 3-1 defeat at league leaders Arbroath.

Sons chairman John Steele said: “We are chuffed to get Jim on board. His achievements as a manager made him the unanimous first choice.”

Iain Russell slid in to open the scoring at Gayfield but Ryan Wallace looped in an equaliser for Arbroath with just over an hour played and Steven Doris and Gavin Swankie added two more.

Raith Rovers remain four points behind the Red Lichties after a 2-1 win over

Stranraer at Stark’s Park. Kevin Nisbet fired high into the net after five minutes before Luke Donnelly slammed in an equaliser just before the half-hour.

Nisbet broke through the Stranraer defence for a second goal on 39 minutes but Raith were reduced to ten men six minutes later when Euan Murray was dismissed after he picked up a second yellow card for simulation.

East Fife equalled a 57-year-old club record when they defeated Brechin City 3-1 to secure an eighth consecutive win.

Aaron Dunsmore put the Fifers in front just before half-time but Callum Tapping levelled from the penalty spot. Anton Dowds quickly restored the lead and Scott Agnew’s penalty clinched the win.

New Airdrie manager Ian Murray will begin work with a happy squad after a 3-0 win at Montrose. Darryl Duffy drilled in a penalty and added a second before the break with Joao Vitoria slotting in the third 11 minutes from time.

Forfar enjoyed a 2-1 win at Stenhousemuir with Dylan Easton and John Baird scoring for the Loons and Morgyn Neill replying.
