Prime Minister Theresa May staved off a potential leadership challenge following an ‘emotional’ meeting with Tory backbenchers.

@oflynnmep tweeted: “Brexiteers should now work on the assumption that Tory MPS will collectively allow May to engage in any degree of Brexit betrayal she likes.”

@Steven_swinford observed: “As we hear Tory MPS banging their desks as Theresa May arrives for the 1922 committee, it’s worth reflecting that she’s getting a very different reception in Cabinet. Ministers are becoming increasingly vocal in their concerns about extending the transition and the backstop.”

@benlewismedia noted: “Theresa May went to make her case to the 1922 Committee of Conservative backbenchers. They banged their fists loudly, so it seems she is still Prime Minister. This is an actual thing that happens in UK politics in 2018.”

After Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, suspected bombs were discovered in the US addressed to actor Robert De Niro and former Vice President Joe Biden. @Mmflint opined: “Bomb package just discovered outside Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Center. Cowards. There are at least 66 million of us. That’s a lot of flag stamps.” @activist360 wrote: “With assassination attempts on multitudes of Trump’s perceived enemies, including the families of two former presidents, CNN, and now Robert De Niro and Joe Biden - what kind of deranged demagogue still holds a ‘hate rally’, and continues to incite violence and attack the media?”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon faced tough questioning about worsening NHS waiting times and teachers’ pay at yesterday’s FMQS. @Bbcphilipsim said: “Patrick Harvie going on teacher pay ahead of a march at the weekend, asking if teachers will get a fair pay rise; Nicola Sturgeon says a ‘generous and fair offer’ has been made, and govt is ‘committed to continuing negotiations in good faith.’”

@berni_hinn posted: “NHS not up to scratch? Amazing how the SNP response on anything that has negative comments is always ‘we’ve just done something about it or planning to do it’.”
