Nicola Sturgeon faced her weekly grilling from opposition MSPS during First Minister’s Questions at Holyrood. The “great divide” between Scottish and UK tax systems was brought up, as was Ms Sturgeon’s handling of an “anti-semitism” row.

@Bbcphilipsim reported: “Nicola Sturgeon says average student debt is lower in Scotland than anywhere else in the UK, reeling off figures for other countries including Labourrun Wales. Says Richard Leonard’s position is ‘do as I say, not as I do.’”

@Garethbquinn wrote: “@ Nicolasturgeon calls out Jackson Carlaw’s defence of UK Gov tax cuts for richest, no surprise he changes the subject immediately. He & Scottish Tories cannot defend tax cuts for the richest, nearly half of which goes to top 10% of households alone.”

@Ross_greer remarked: “Nice of the First Minister to talk up the ‘progressive changes’ to income tax negotiated by the Greens last year. Those at the top paying a bit more, those who earn less paying a bit less. As it should be.”

@Dhothersall tweeted: “I’ve held off criticising the FM for her photocalls cos I think it’s hard sometimes to judge between leadership and grandstanding. But reading that she brought her visit up at #FMQS in response to a question about the antisemitic SNP blog does make me sad. It’s not a damn prop.”

The dust was still settling on an ill-tempered Edinburgh derby yesterday as both Hearts and Hibs condemned two incidents that marred the encounter. Hibs boss Neil Lennon was struck by a coin that appeared to have been thrown from the crowd, while Hearts goalkeeper Zdenek Zlamal was hit by a fan.

@Barryanderson_ opined: “Hearts & Hibs are a credit to Edinburgh with thousands of good-natured fans. Those fans were let down by mindless individuals.”

@Jussithecat wrote:

“If you’re venting more criticism at Neil Lennon for “unprofessionalism” than you are towards cointhrowing scum, then you have a very questionable set of morals.”

@Jamie_jambo asked: “Not really wanting to get in to whataboutery, but why has more been said about Lennon getting hit by a coin than Bobby Zlamal being punched in the face by a Hibs fan?”
