Lord Haughey bags prize at national final

Two high-profile Scottish business leaders were honoured for their work at the EY Entreprene­ur of the Year 2018 UK awards ceremony last night in London.

Lord Willie Haughey, cofounder and chairman of Glasgow-headquarte­red City Holdings Group, won the Sustained Excellence category in recognitio­n of “three decades as an inspiratio­nal entreprene­ur”.

This UK title is in addition to the two awards he claimed at the Scotland final in June, for Sustained Excellence and EY Entreprene­ur of the Year 2018 Scotland overall winner.

Charles Hammond, chief executive of Edinburgh-based Forth Ports, which owns and operates eight commercial ports on the Firth of Forth, Firth of Tay and the Thames, was joint-winner of the Transforma­tional Leader prize.

Mike Timmins, partner and EY Entreprene­ur Of The Year leader in Scotland, said: “With a relentless focus on improvemen­t, Lord Willie Haughey has created an incredible business of internatio­nal renown. His unfalterin­g commitment to others is making a positive impact to the lives of many people. He is an inspiratio­n for all aspiring entreprene­urs.”

He added that Hammond was “an impressive entreprene­ur” with a dynamic and approachab­le leadership style which drives “remarkable business growth and makes a significan­t contributi­on to the economy”.

Brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa, co-chief executives of Blackburn-based forecourt operator EG Group, were crowned overall winners at the ceremony. 0 Lord Willie Haughey won for ‘sustained excellence’
