Lord Haughey bags prize at national final
Two high-profile Scottish business leaders were honoured for their work at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 UK awards ceremony last night in London.
Lord Willie Haughey, cofounder and chairman of Glasgow-headquartered City Holdings Group, won the Sustained Excellence category in recognition of “three decades as an inspirational entrepreneur”.
This UK title is in addition to the two awards he claimed at the Scotland final in June, for Sustained Excellence and EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2018 Scotland overall winner.
Charles Hammond, chief executive of Edinburgh-based Forth Ports, which owns and operates eight commercial ports on the Firth of Forth, Firth of Tay and the Thames, was joint-winner of the Transformational Leader prize.
Mike Timmins, partner and EY Entrepreneur Of The Year leader in Scotland, said: “With a relentless focus on improvement, Lord Willie Haughey has created an incredible business of international renown. He added that Hammond was “an impressive entrepreneur” with a dynamic and approachable leadership style which drives “remarkable business growth and makes a significant contribution to the economy”.
