FIREBALL FEAR MEANS RECALL OF 47,000 ZAFIRAS

Vauxhall is to recall another 47,000 Zafira cars over fears they could catch fire.

The car maker previously recalled 234,000 Zafira Bs between 2015 and 2016 after uncovering a fault with the heating system which caused a number of cars to burst into flames.

Models with electronic climate control were excluded from the initial recall but the manufacturer has now said it is recalling nearly 50,000 vehicles fitted with this system to replace elements of its air conditioning system. What models are affected? The latest recall affects Vauxhall Zafira B cars built between 2005 and 2014 and fitted with electronic climate control (ECC).

Avaux hall spokesman said: “We are launching a recall of some vauxhall zafira models to replace the heater blower motor and regulator.

“These are the zafira b models, built between 2005 and 2014, fitted with electronic climate control. There are 47,000 such cars in the UK.

“We will write to owners using the keeper address data from the dv la advising them to contact a Vauxhall Retailer to arrange to have the work carried out free of charge.

“Letters will start to be sent out from the end of this week.

“Vauxhall Motors considers the safety of its customers very seriously.”

Vauxhall is already facing potential legal action over the fires, which have seen 161 Zafiras reportedly catching fire. It was accused by MPS of showing a “reckless disregard for safety” by delaying a recall after the fires came to light and earlier this year the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency launched a criminal investigation into Vauxhall’s actions.
