#MARRIOTT

Hotel chain Marriott has announced that 500 million guests’ data may have been exposed during breaches that started in 2014 from a reservation database for its hotels.

@taosecurity posted: “No real details in this case, including if the intruders remained present. If they did, this is some serious dwell time.”

@paul2ivan questioned: “So #Marriott/starwood needed 4 years to figure out they were hacked.”

@beehudz added: “Is anyone else completely desensitised by all these data breaches? I didn’t even blink twice when I read the news about #starwood #marriott. I’m pretty sure the dark web has all the data about me from about a thousand other breaches, so not exactly concerned here.”

#MICHELIN

Michelin bosses have agreed to work with Scottish ministers on “repurposing” their Dundee tyre factory after sticking with plans to end production at the site.

@C_bdingwall tweeted: “#Michelin’s ‘decision is as was’ says Dundee City Council leader John Alexander on #Dundee closure. Hopes site can be developed as skills centre.”

@Tele_scott lamented: “The spin on this #Michelin closure announcement is disgusting. Sure, turn it into a training centre. But ‘a really positive outcome’, ‘a new and exciting future’? What about the 850 people soon to be out of a job?”

#SNOWLEOPARD

A snow leopard was shot dead after an enclosure door was left open and it escaped. Dudley Zoo in England’s West Midlands, said the action was taken as a last resort.

@freethinkinvybz wrote: “I will never ever step foot in Dudley Zoo after the tragic shooting of a snow leopard, which I’m certain could have been shot with a sedation gun instead and I hope other people also boycott.”

@elliegoulding tweeted: “We are the worst.”

@Indiawilloughby said: ‘No, please don’t leave my cage open. They’ll shoot me.’ How can the zoo call this euthanasia ? Why not just tranquillise the leopard? Appalling.”

@Jsbtokesgirl fumed: “It’s the end of 2018 and we still can’t have tranquilliser darts to save an animal’s life. We just think, let’s kill it on the spot, when it hasn’t hurt anybody in the first place. Like some people need to be fired because this isn’t right.”
