Digne gets Sigurdsson off the hook with Everton’s equaliser deep into stoppage time

against Watford at Goodison Park last night.

In a dramatic fixture that saw the Toffees concede two goals and miss a penalty all in a crazy five-minute spell in the second half, Watford looked to have secured all three points until they conceded a free-kick with the clock on 95 minutes.

Digne stepped up and curled home a delightful shot beyond Ben Foster, who appeared rooted to the spot.

Richarlison had opened the scoring against his former club on 15 minutes. Andre Gomes sent a testing ball in across the face of goal and Brazilian Richarlison slammed in from the middle of the box.

Both sides had decent chances before the end of the first half but Everton went in 1-0 up at the break and seemed fairly comfortable.

However, Watford were impressive in the second 45. They levelled things up after 63 minutes when Everton captain Seamus Coleman inadvertently turned the ball into his own net after Roberto Pereyra’s shot had hit the post.

And, to the dismay of the home supporters, the visitors turned the game on its head two minutes later, taking the lead courtesy of Abdoulaye Doucoure’s powerful header.

Everton had the chance to pull themselves level from the spot in the 68th minute after Christian Kabasele pushed Yerry Mina in the box but Gylfi Sigurdsson’s penalty was saved by Watford shotstopper Foster. The former England keeper was beaten from about 20 yards right at the death, though, as Digne slammed home.
