Scotland will have mixed emotions after this loss to the second-best side in world rugby because there wasn’t much to choose between the two teams on the day. During the game Irish outside-half Jonathan Sexton absorbed more than one hard hit while Stuart Hogg was also forced off after receiving a big hit of his own.

@Irishrugby reported: “Ireland’s dogged display sees off Scottish challenge.”

@Indosport tweeted: “Ireland edge Scotland in error-strewn affair as Joey Carbery shows quality in Johnny Sexton’s absence.”

@Rachael_m1 said: “Alas the score wasn’t what we were after but today’s view wasn’t too bad.”

@bbcrugbyunion stated: “‘He doesn’t seem to like us,’ Scotland captain Greig Laidlaw wasn’t impressed with the performance of referee Romain Poite after his side were beaten by Ireland in the #Sixnations.”

@Scotlandteam wrote: “FT | Wasn’t to be today at BT Murrayfield as Ireland negotiate a win with a physical performance in the first game of the weekend in the @Sixnationsrugby Championship.”

@theangrywomble wrote: “To many basic mistakes. Great atmosphere at the game though!!” @mstrwelshie added: “We haven’t become a bad team overnight passed up so many chances to put Ireland away yesterday probably 2 of the Irish tries were preventable.”

#PRINCEPHILIP

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said the 97-yearold Duke of Edinburgh has agreed to give up his licence. Philip was involved in a car crash where a woman was injured near Sandringham.

@Bbcbreaking reported: “The Duke of Edinburgh is to voluntarily give up his driving licence, Buckingham Palace says.”

@chrisshipitv wrote: “At age 97, it was perhaps inevitable that a crash of this kind would lead to a period of reflection and then a decision to give up driving.”

@Ukmoments commented: “In a letter, Prince Philip wished a ‘speedy recovery’ to the woman injured in a car crash he was involved in.”

@Karin_krause1 replied: “Well done, him. I know how hard it must have been to give up that aspect of his independence.”

@smilinglaura asked: “’Breaking news’? 97-yearold stops driving. Seriously.”
