Rugby red flag

So disappointing that during the cracking Scotland-ireland Six Nations match the line judge failed to spot the late tackle on Stuart Hogg, resulting in him being replaced and the whole match being spoiled. What are they there for? Surely to spot instances like this and help the referee.
