Falkirk have climbed to a season-high position of eighth place and sit above Alloa for the first time since the opening day of the season after defeating the Wasps 2-1 at the Indodrill Stadium.

Jordan Mcghee headed home a deft cross from Zak Rudden on 20 minutes to open the scoring but Alloa hit back 11 minutes later when Connor Shields turned in Dario Zanatta’s cross.

The hosts looked set to take the lead just before the break when a shot from Steven Hetherington struck William Edjenguele but Ciaran Mckenna popped up to clear.

The winner came a minute into the second half when Mark Waddington, pictured, stabbed home from close range after some trickery from Deimantas Petravicius on the left.

Falkirk assistant manager Darren Taylor said: “It is a great boost as we have been focusing on moving up to eighth. It was not the prettiest, but the result was what was important.”

The Wasps now sit only above Partick Thistle and the Jags can move above them if they come out on top when the sides meet next weekend. Manager Jim Goodwin said: “We are playing in the manner I want us to play but we are making mistakes we were not making earlier in the season. If we cut them out of our play, then results will turn.”
