Curran happy to do Nelson’s donkey work

- By EUAN MCARTHUR

Craig Curran believes his Dundee team-mate Andrew Nelson is destined for the top and doesn’t mind doing the young striker’s donkey work.

Curran is a big fan of former Sunderland forward who has been a revelation since signing for Jim Mcintyre’s side, who hope to keep their domestic revival going in tonight’s televised clash with Hibs at Dens Park.

Former Dundee United striker Curran, who crossed the city divide to join Dundee last month, is convinced Nelson has all the potential to become a top forward, and is more than happy to allow him to grab the glory as he plays alongside his burgeoning striker partner.

“Andrew has a really bright future ahead of him,” Curran said. “He’s come in here, he’s enthusiastic, he’s willing to learn and he works hard on his game. His pace and aggression terrifies defenders and he’s showed already he can finish, so there has been a lot of positives for him so far.

“He’s quick, he can do it with both feet and is decent in the air – so all the ingredients are there. We have worked well together and it doesn’t bother me if he gets the goals. It’s about being a team player and if I do the donkey work for him to score then I’m fine.”

Nelson has scored four goals in six games for Dundee but Curran has yet to find the net.

“Obviously I want to score and that’s something I am keen to put to bed soon,” he said. “Staying up is all that matters, so if someone had said we’d be winning games and climbing the table but I wasn’t scoring I would still have taken that. The goals will come, I’m sure of that. The supporters have been very good to me, I think they have seen the work I put in.

“Comingfromunitedwasn’t a concern for me, I wasn’t ever not going to come because of that. Joining Dundee was the right thing to do and I knew that. It’s not about individuals though because the only way we’ll stay up is as a team and that enthusiasm he’s showed is replicated elsewhere.”
