#JENNERS

Shoppers have been rocked by the news that the popular toy department at one of Scotland’s oldest and most famous department stores, Jenners, in Edinburgh’s Princes Street, has closed for good. A Hamley’s toy shop had been located in the basement of the iconic department store, which is operated by the troubled House of Fraser chain, since 2017.

An upset @chicklethart wrote: “How sad so very fond memories of Jenners toy department.”

@Smicht tweeted: “Ach, just read that the Jenners toy shop is closed for good. Kids used to love a wee visit there.”

@nethenia added: “So sad another part of our history gone for Edinburgh.”

@jambo9766 said: “That’s so sad. My son was brought up on visits to Jenners toy dept.”

While @BRIANNUFC made reference to House of Fraser owner: “Just another Mike Ashley store of tat.” Lastly, @brucerisk wrote: “End of a long long Edinburgh institution. The new owners lacking in any imagination. Sure lots of people probably buying mass-produced toys from Amazon but Jenners should surely attract the unique & wonderful. The magic is out there, they just have to look for it.”

#USVISIT

The cost of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s recent visit to North America to taxpayers has been revealed, with the five-day trip to the US and Canada last month costing £44,000.

@Justignore_them said: “Seems good value. And such transparency.”

@Issiemitchell wrote: “I see Sturgeon’s recent jolly to North America cost the taxpayer £44,000. Does anyone know any benefit Scotland got from this visit?”

@Coigach1 added: “Getting on with the day job. Ensuring Scotland is properly represented and not party to the Westminster shambles.”

@piperboy35 tweeted: “This is disgraceful – all this cost on one of her trips alone, while people in Scotland are going without food and benefits to survive.”

@Boardwalkbeach added: “How small-minded are some people in Scotland to deny our First Minister foreign travel? Disgusting how anti-scotland some people are. Scotland needs to embrace the world and some people need to get out more and see how other countries are succeeding.”
