‘Bounce’ coming
I enjoyed reading your correspondents Edwards, Howell and Redfern on the subject of the SNP and Indyref2 on Saturday.
I do not agree with the list of problems identified by Mr Edwards. Asking the rich in Scotland to pay a little more in tax to maintain the best-performing public service in the UK is a positive in my book. A tourist tax is a must to invest in our tourist attractions and the workplace parking charge on employers is a Green policy, not the SNP’S.
The “Brexit bounce” will happen. The Indyref1 political campaign increased support for independence by 15 percentage points. With Brexit pain increasingly hitting us through 2020, how many more points will be heaped upon the Yes side?
Mr Howell speculates on the level of support for independence required before Nicola Sturgeon announces the date for Indyref2. Please do remember the Scottish Parliament has already agreed to Indyref2, voting 69-59 in March 2017. The change in material circumstances of Scotland being removed from the EU against our will is scheduled to happen on 29 March and Indyref2 will then be triggered.
Mr Redfern writes on the subject of the Section 30 order to make Indyref2 legally binding. This is not necessary; the Brexit referendum was not legally binding. Indyref2 can quite easily succeed as a nonbinding referendum.
