CEO of TOAST Suzie de Rohan Willner
What’s the last piece of clothing you bought?
The TOAST Fitted Waist Denim Dress is a timeless, easy and all-weather yearround staple. The pockets are perfectly positioned to create an architectural design structure which accentuates my waist.
What are you addicted to buying?
Anything made from slubby garment dyed fabric. It ages beautifully.
Best ever bargain?
I bought a Susy Harper top over 15 years ago. I still cherish it and have it repaired often. It has a timeless easy design and is rich in colour, texture and fabric.
Who has great style?
Katharine Hepburn, Diana Vreeland and Georgia O’keeffe spring to mind. They all have simple ageless style, which pairs masculine and feminine fabrics and silhouettes. I find this offers a unique sensuality.
Name your favourite high street shop.
I love Graphie Sud, a concept store in the centre of Brussels. I have particularly fond memories of popping in with my daughter to discover their eclectic mix of unique items that you wouldn’t find anywhere else in a beautifully calm space.
Any fashion disasters you’d care to tell us about?
Throughout my youth I would experiment with different looks. The theatre of dressing up and letting your clothes speak of who you are at that time in your life is a joyous one and has definitely gone on to inform my style today.
What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?
TOAST regularly works with fair trade co-operatives and artisanal craftspeople. My favourite item is our Kantha gown made from recycled saris by an Indian co-operative. What I love is the storytelling, the mystery behind the fabric and uniqueness of each piece.
TOAST is opening its first Scottish boutique at 4 North West Circus Place, Edinburgh (www. toa.st/uk) on Wednesday
